Where do I start? I have been a computer user for many years, that is to say I use them not code for them. Now as I get too old to learn new tricks, here I am trying to learn ExpressionEngine. I downloaded the free core over a month ago and found this free webhost. I decided to load ExpressionEngine on this free site, and then for several weeks I would just upload new versions of the software but never use it because I did not know where to start.

This site uses a downloaded template, so not only did I not design it, I did not know how to just jump in and start making it mine. I can say that if I were able to design a site page it would look way different, but since that is most likely months down the road I will work with what I’ve got. The main purpose of this site will be a place of testing the skills I learn. I have a very busy work schedule which does not leave much time to learn something totally new, so it will be hit and miss to progress very fast.

I am an avid Mac user, having used a Mac since 1986. I have always loved the way Apple has made quality hardware and software. Now I find myself trying to acquire and learn several new software applications for building an EE website. From what I have read and observed from others, it looks like I will be using Coda from Panic and ExpresionEngine for the CMS to build a dynamic website. EE 2.0 has been announced for release sometime this summer, so that has spurred me into action. I would like to learn my way around by the time it is released.

It was also announced EE 2.0 will be built on CodeIgniter, their own php Framework. Again this is another coding platform for which I am clueless. So here I am, needing to learn XHTML, CSS, EE and php.

It is also an understatement that I am not a web designer. Just that fact alone makes this process seem so huge a climb. If you happen on this site, please be kind.
